Acknowledgement to Country
The Department of Education and Sunnybank State Special School acknowledges the traditional custodians of this land that we proudly educate the future of Australia, the Jagera/Yaggera people of Brisbane. We pay respect to the Elders - past, present and future generations - for they hold the memories, traditions, the culture and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Welcome to, what I believe, is the best school in the world!
Sunnybank Special School is a dynamic and growing school that provides educational programs for students aged from three to eighteen years of age. We are located in Sunnybank, Brisbane.
The students are drawn from surrounding suburbs of Acacia Ridge, Coopers Plains, Salisbury, Eight Mile Plains, Archerfield and Rocklea.
All students who attend the school are diagnosed with an intellectual disability. Over 70% of these students have a dual diagnosis of Intellectual Disability and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The school community has a very diverse multicultural background, with 80% of students coming from Non-English speaking, refugee or migrant backgrounds.
The school consists of classes covering the Early Years (Prep, Year 1 and Year 2), the Middle Years (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6), Junior Secondary (Years 7, 8, 9 and 10) and Senior Secondary (Years 11 and 12). The school is also very fortunate to operate an Early Childhood Development Program for students prior to school age with special needs. I am very proud of the learning that happens at Sunnybank Special and look forward to meeting you at the school soon!
